Help Secure the Future of the SPR in its New Home
The termination in 2015 of the lease on our small office in Kensington presented our Society with a challenge, but also an opportunity to realize a long-held dream—that of securing a new headquarters that would enable the Society to better provide for its members and the worldwide scientific and academic community that it serves.
With good luck, and much hard work, we were able to identify, purchase and fit out new premises in a relatively short time. To do that in London’s heated property market we had to dig deep into our financial reserves. Now we need your help to replenish our reserves and help us ‘pay’ for our new home.
Our new home is a three-storey office building on a quiet mews near Olympia in West Kensington. It is convenient to public transportation and has off-street parking. Holding pride of place in our new building is the library, located on the second floor. The wood and glass-fronted bookcases that have housed our collection for many decades were moved, refurbished and installed with new shelving to accommodate our collection of over 2,000 books and allow for future growth. The ground floor is our new lecture room where we have started holding lectures and study days and from which we soon hope to be offering members online access to these events.
