Despite no sign of a natural healing ability, Sandy Edwards trained to be a spiritual healer with a non-religious UK charity (the Healing Trust). Ten years later, she instigated probably the largest clinical trial of healing in the world.
Funded by the National Lottery, the trial was led by the University of Birmingham, known for its first-rate research. The two-year study involved 200 NHS hospital patients with longstanding illnesses - irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). There is no medical cure for either condition and conventional treatments are often ineffective.
